Dear Programmers and Bookers,
Once in a while a film comes along that drives home the profound changes that are happening in our lifetimes to planet Earth. The human species is cursed with shortsightedness and unable to imagine (or care) about the world we're leaving to our grandchildren, not to mention their grandchildren. Our apathy is evident every election cycle when we choose politicians who collectively are unable or unwilling to face the enormous challenges brought about by human activity.
President Anote Tong of Kiribati feels the apathy more than most world leaders, as his island nation slowly disappears under the rising waves.
Matthieu Rytz wanted to capture Anote's struggle to do something about this slow annihilation; rather than making another angry screed he instead crafted a beautiful, transporting documentary that allows the viewer to experience firsthand what the Kiribati people are going through.
Please check out the trailer – and I'm happy to send a screening link to the feature as well.
